Hardfacing is a way to build up surfaces by adding harder welded materials to the surface of a part. This process lengthens the life of a part’s surface and can even return used parts to practically new condition with 25-75% less cost.

There are many processes used to hardface a part’s surface, including flux cored arc welding (FCAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), submerged arc welding (SAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), oxyfuel welding (OFW), and plasma transferred arc welding, laser welding, thermal spray and brazing.

Carbon and low-alloy steels are the most common metals used to hardface other materials.  With that being said, determining the type of wear your equipment may encounter will help you determine what metal to use.

Hardfacing can be a huge saver of both time and money if your equipment is subject to severe wear through repeated impact.
