Eagle Superabrasives is a premier supplier of superabrasive supplies located in the United States. With an extensive inventory of over 6,000 diamond cdx, cbn wheels in stock, hardfacing will no longer be considered a challenge.
Many metal tools and materials tend to fail not because of fracturing, but because of the wear that it faces throughout its life. This wear and tear causes the loss of dimension and proper functionality. To combat the wear and tear, hardfacing or often referred to as hard surfacing is used. Hardfacing is the “application of buildup or wear-resistant weld metals to a parts surface by meaning of welding or joining”.
Not all materials however, can be hardfaced. Base metals such as carbon and even low alloy steels with a carbon count of less than one percent can be hardfaced. If you’re looking to hardface a higher carbon alloy, you will need to apply a special buffer layer. Common base metals that are customers often work with are stainless steels, manganese steels, cast irons, nickel and copper based alloys. All metals that occur frequently in building materials and industrial settings.
There are many types of wear that hardfacing can help counter if done properly. Roughly forty percent of the time, abrasion is the biggest factor of wear, then impact at twenty five percent, metal to metal, heat and corrosion. With the proper hardfacing procedure, wear can be minimized.
