Eagle Superabrasives is a premier supplier of superabrasive supplies located in the United States. With an extensive inventory of over 6,000 diamond CDX and CBN wheels in stock, hardface grinding will no longer be an obstacle.
Many metal tools and materials tend to fail not because of fracturing, but because of wear that occurs throughout use. This wear and tear causes the loss of dimension and proper functionality.
Hardfacing, also known as hardsurfacing, is used to combat this issue. Hardfacing is the application of buildup or wear-resistant weld metals to a part’s surface with the purpose of hardening the surface.
Not all materials, however, can be hardfaced. Base metals such as carbon and low-alloy steels with a carbon count of less than 1% can be. If you’re looking to hardface a higher carbon alloy, you will need to apply a special buffer layer.
Common base metals that our customers often work with are stainless steels, manganese steels, cast irons, and nickel- and copper-based alloys. All of these are metals that occur frequently in building materials and industrial settings.
There are many types of wear that can occur on parts, including abrasion, impact, metallic (metal-to-metal), heat and corrosion. With the proper hardfacing procedure, wear of any of these types can be minimized.
