What is a Centerless Grinding Wheel?
Centerless grinding machines utilize two wheels, both of which are available through Eagle Superabrasives. The work piece is fixed between the two wheels: a centerless grinding wheel and a regulating wheel.
The wheels move relative to each other to determine how much material is removed from the workpiece, as well as how quickly it is removed.
The ability to control the removal rate and speed offers high-precision grinding and control.
Types of Centerless Grinding
Centerless Grinding can be done in three ways:
- Through Feed – During this process, the workpiece enters one side of the machine and exits the other side.
- End Feed – This process requires the workpiece to be fed in one side, where the piece comes to rest and the grinding takes place. Once grinding is finished, the piece is then fed in the opposite direction to exit.
- In Feed– This process is used when workpieces have complex shapes. Unlike the two processes listed above, the workpiece is manually loaded onto the grinding machine and then the regulating wheel is moved into place.
